AdoptMeApp is a valuable tool for us to show different aspects of a cat’s personality that aren’t always obvious from their PetHarbor (shelter website) profile picture. Sometimes we catch a cat’s playfulness, soft eyes and relaxed body posture, or a relationship with another cat, all of which are valuable when a potential adopter is considering adding a family member. I’m always pleasantly surprised when I ask visitors why they want to meet a particular cat and they tell me that the AdoptMeApp pictures brought them to the shelter. And I’m even happier when these visits result in an adoption. Thank you AdoptMeApp!
I did a story sequence about my chat with Willow (see her diary) about how she would find a home. The neat thing is that a grad student and her friends liked her photos enough that they came to meet this senior cat and decided to adopt her.

Our shelter website only allows for one photo of the animal but with AdoptMeApp we can add more personal and fun photos that you would not ordinarily see. Potential adopters can see that a dog gets along with other dogs and it show more of their personality. These two posts were done when I was just getting to know AdoptMeApp. I was doing playgroups and thought it would be perfect to see these dogs in action while they are having fun.
Reggie: he did not display well in his kennel, he barked, and fence fought with the dogs next door. It appeared he did not get along with other dogs and people would keep walking by his kennel. Seeing him in a group of other dogs playing and doing well, put him in a whole new light. People sometimes will see the dogs and their content online and it will bring them into the shelter to meet the dog.
Auggie: was very shut down when he first arrived — he was not a fan of people or other dog. We started him in playgroups and he really came out of his shell with both people and other dogs. He was another one that did not display well in the kennel. The AdoptMeApp really brought out his personality and playful nature that would not show in his profile picture or in his kennel.

The AdoptMeApp is a great tool for highlighting the shelter pets — showing their personalities and really bringing them to life. It’s great tool for engaging with the community and having a greater impact in adoptions and exposure for the shelter. I love how user friendly the app is. Potential adopters often mention seeing AdoptMeApp posts in the diary on PetHarbor on the shelter website. This makes me feel all our hard work is worth it, as well as appreciated.

Being able to post pictures of the animals that are up for adoption is invaluable. Potential adopters are able to see dogs, etc., interact with real people. I especially try to post one or more photos when the animal doesn’t have a picture listed on their profile yet. People are more apt to be interested in an animal if they can see what they look like. To me, it makes them and their need real — you can see it in their eyes.

Thank you so much for giving me the opportunity to share my joy in using this app! Having a smart phone that takes great pictures has allowed me to capture the beauty of so many of our felines at my shelter and now they are getting even more exposure in addition to their standard website images. This gives them even more chances to be adopted. I especially love being prompted to add a cute or descriptive caption to their profiles. There were so many favorites and I DID agonize over which one to choose! But I’ll choose this one as it’s now or never!
